Wonderful World

Description

In this ode to nature with a humanistic message, French cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca presents a sumptuous program centered around the theme of planet preservation. He invites numerous voices from the international scene to enrich the universe of his instrument. An exceptional, unprecedented, and supportive project. Wonderful World is a multifaceted project, all converging towards Christian-Pierre La Marca's sensitivity to the preservation of our planet. "Music has the ability to awaken consciousness, to sensitize without seeking to convince or recruit. A short circuit that goes straight to the heart," he explains. His commitment had already taken an artistic turn with the creation of the Concert for the Planet in 2019. It now shines through in a supportive album featuring a blend of voices resonating with classical, neo-classical, world music, and jazz, all singing the same song of the Earth. This is indeed a song—of wonder, questioning, a call to awakening, a prayer—that emerges in these twenty-six tracks as well as in the images of Yann Arthus-Bertrand included in the booklet. Christian-Pierre La Marca's cello has often been associated with the human voice, for its melodic lines, the flexibility of its curves, and its lyrical intensity. Here, it is the voices of sopranos Sabine Devieilhe and Patricia Petibon that reflect back to him, alongside the clarinet of Michel Portal, the pianos of Thomas Enhco, Baptiste Trotignon, Nathanaël Gouin, and Thierry Escaich, the accordion of Félicien Brut with the double bass of Édouard Macarez, and the pop duo Lilly Wood & The Prick. The singing is not limited to the soloists, as a group of musicians from the Orchestre de Paris also lends its texture to the tailor-made arrangements. We will rediscover under different lights Over the Rainbow by Arlen, Après un rêve by Fauré, and Summertime by Gershwin, moving from The Swan by Saint-Saëns to I giorni by Ludovico Einaudi, from The Hours by Philip Glass to Lost in the Stars by Kurt Weill. "This ode to nature is above all a hymn to sharing," concludes the cellist. "Beyond the program, I wanted to experience this adventure with exceptional artists from different backgrounds and universes. After all, isn't that our mission as artists? To share with our audience, to move, to awaken consciousness around the world?"
