Fortezza di Vetro Vol. 2

Description

Oakland multi-instrumentalist Justin Pinkerton (drummer for San Francisco psych-rockers Golden Void) unveils the second – and apparently final – installment of his Fortezza Di Vetro project under his solo moniker Futuropaco. Driven by his ultra-technical and groovy drumming, this album offers a series of dynamic and sophisticated art-rock jams, imbued with krautrock and stoner metal. Based in Oakland, California, Justin Pinkerton has refined and expanded his Futuropaco project to an astonishing degree over the past few years. The one-man band is deeply rooted in Pinkerton's masterful drumming, which draws on the legacy of 60s and 70s legends such as Tony Allen and Jaki Liebezeit. But he is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, and the sound of Futuropaco is a colorful fusion that sees him adding fuzz guitars, flutes, vintage synthesizers and Anatolian string instruments into the mix, seemingly without too much effort. The second and final volume in the “Fortezza Di Vetro” series feels like a conclusion, the sound of an artist reaching his creative peak. It’s an experimental album, but immediately alluring in its energy – channeling equal parts the vibrating art-rock of Tortoise, the riffing of Black Sabbath, and vintage Italian film music. It's such a refined and esoteric blend, yet it hits so directly.
