Mary, Don’t Take Me On No Bad Trip

Description

With the highly anticipated release of Fugi's "Mary, Don't Take Me On No Bad Trip", Funky Delicacies makes available the finest Psych-Funk music ever produced. This genre, born from the post-LSD expressions of Midwestern Black musicians in the 60s, was a massive underground phenomenon that has recently resurfaced. Funky Delicacies has already made a major contribution to this genre with the group Black Merda. With this reissue, Funky Delicacies once again proves its ability to flesh out music from the most hard-to-reach corners of the American music industry. The centerpiece of this reissue is an unreleased album that should have been released by the famous Chess label in the wake of its hit, albeit pro-drug, single "Mary, Don't Take Me On No Bad Trip", but was ultimately shelved. Fugi is accompanied on these recordings by the band Black Merda; this music pulsates with a vitality that could reawaken brain cells dormant from 35-year-old acid trips. This album has generated significant interest since Fugi's passing in 2020, primarily due to the many tracks featured in Ken Burn's Ali documentary. We are proud to re-release it with a new full-color inner sleeve and LP / DELLP0009 new liner notes. A gem for soul-bluesy fans and 70s Black music diggers.
