En partnership with the prestigious National Gallery in London, EMI Classics has recently begun a collaboration with the National Gallery in London, one of the most famous British museums, located in Trafalgar Square, which combines large-scale exhibitions showcasing the masterpieces of its painting collections with musical works that are associated with them through history or creative inspiration. First release in France, this luxurious book-disc, illustrated by "A Woman Playing the Guitar" by Vermeer, parallels the extraordinary paintings of the Flemish master with the choral works of John Dowland and William Byrd. An exhibition will take place starting June 26 at the National Gallery, exploring the concept of music as one of the main motifs and sources of inspiration in Vermeer's work, and a daily occupation for the Dutch elite of the 17th century. Dowland and Byrd are considered the fathers of British vocal music, authors of melancholic pieces and remarkable inventiveness, wonderfully interpreted here by the ensemble Fretwork.
