The Girl With The Needle

Description

Frederikke Hoffmeier scores Magnus von Horn's Danish thriller. This historical crime drama, set in Copenhagen in 1918, follows Karoline, a young working-class woman struggling to survive. When she becomes pregnant, she decides to terminate her pregnancy. The film intertwines academic rigor (meticulous lighting, theatrical staging) with monstrosity (a face reminiscent of Lynch's Elephant Man, gore elements). The music accentuates this heterogeneous mix of melodrama and horror. It oscillates between a classical register (strings, melodious piano) and more unexpected, dissonant sounds, such as an electronic pulse that underscores imminent danger, generating tension that transcends the image.
