Hot rats

Description

Zappa Records and Universal Music reissue Hot Rats in LP format. The second solo album by Frank Zappa and the first following the dissolution of the Mothers of Invention (first period), Hot Rats released in October 1969, is essentially composed of long instrumental tracks influenced by psych-jazz (notably excepting "Willie the Pimp" featuring the voice of the raw Captain Beefheart) and sounds, therefore, very different from previous Zappaesque adventures where biting humor, collage, and concrete music collided. The multi-instrumentalist Ian Underwood is the only member of the Mothers present on this recording, and he was indeed the main architect alongside Zappa. Among the other musicians, we find Max Bennett and Shuggie Otis on bass, drummers John Guerin, Paul Humphrey, or Ron Selico, and Don 'Sugarcane' Harris and Jean-Luc Ponty on electric violin. To quote Zappa, this album is 'a movie for the ears'.
