They could be tightrope walkers and stunt performers. Tightrope walkers because they progress in balance on the thin line of their timeless melodies, suspended in the air. And stunt performers because they allow themselves, around this line, a series of daring moves, never losing sight of it. They could be collectors, treasure hunters. But far from preserving their loot intact – catchy tunes gathered from all corners of the world, sometimes from distant eras – they renovate it, give it their own patina, make it twirl in different colors… And send it back out into the world. They could be anthropophagists: they assimilate folk songs, meticulously chew their chosen pieces, digest them, and return them to the light of who they are – a tribe of jazzmen, thirsty for meaning and freedom.
