A prolific DJ who usually gears his productions towards the dancefloor, Fort Romeau considers the album format a space to stretch out and express himself at greater length. He has explored several stylistic approaches in recent years, but with the prolonged pause of the dance community in 2020, Michael focused on deeper work. With a desire to return to his roots, he amassed over a dozen hours of sounds. The result is Beings of Light, a collection of tracks ranging from rainy-day ambient to moonlit disco and dreamlike techno. The fundamental inspiration comes from a work by Steven Arnold, a protégé of Dalí, known for constructing otherworldly tableaux from found objects until his death from AIDS in 1994. The photograph, Power of Grace, from 1984 which illustrates the album cover, immediately resonated with him. This visual, along with the surrealist idea that dreams allow us to create a better reality, led Michael to craft an ambitious record, a love letter to dance music with a message of hope. Beings of Light, the album's title, comes from his conviction that people can facilitate change by first imagining how they want things to be, and by not letting cynicism block that light. \"Spotlight\" is Michael's ode to the romanticized New York City that lives in our hearts, nocturnal and carefree. A vocal sample repeats the title, evoking classic house. \"Ramona\" pays homage to the Robert Johnson club in Offenbach, Germany. It's also a strong nod to modern and minimal Frankfurt house. Two ambient pieces, \"(In The) Rain\" and \"Porta Coeli\", show his desire to go beyond the dancefloor and find an intermediate space that, beyond sonic precision, connects with the complexity and ambiguity of human emotions. Closing, \"Beings of Light\" is an arc built with atmospheric textures, euphoric percussion, and a striking piano melody.
