With its hit \"Run\" that \"opens like a dreamy track... then becomes as violent as a storm\" (BILLBOARD) and its \"immense victorious chorus\" (STEREOGUM), Concrete and Gold combines the angriest riffs written by the Foo with the complex harmonies of producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Pink) who collaborates with the band for the first time. This unlikely alliance is the result of a series of happy musical coincidences: while driving his car about four years ago, Dave Grohl heard \"Again and again\" by The bird and the bee, Greg Kurstin's band. \"I found that song crazy... it was much more sophisticated than anything I had heard, and it obsessed me.\" A few months later, Grohl coincidentally meets \"the guy from The Bird \u0026amp; The Bee!\" a\/k\/a Greg Kurstin and confesses his admiration. The two become friends through their musical affinities, Grohl learning along the way that his new favorite band was on hiatus due to Greg Kurstin's busy schedule as a producer. While the Foo Fighters record and release Sonic Highways, fill stadiums, and offer the St. Cecilia EP to their fans, \"Greg was becoming one of the biggest producers in the world,\" Grohl recalls. And as the writing and recording of the new Foo Fighters album looms on the horizon, Grohl wants, as usual, the band to take on new challenges: \"I thought asking Greg to produce a heavy rock album would be a real challenge for him as well as for us, we had never worked with a pop producer.\" Darrel Thorp (Beck, Radiohead) is quickly hired for the mix. All these people gather at the famous EastWest studios in Hollywood to record this marriage of extremes that is \"the Sgt. Pepper version by Motorhead... or something like that.\" Or as Grohl further defines it, \"Our noise plus Greg's big brain with his complicated arrangements and melodies.\" A few months\/songs\/anecdotes, and many guitars later, the band, holder of 11 Grammy Awards and having sold over 25 million records, completes its most ambitious album to date. The Foo Fighters will answer this question on October 7, as their own festival, CAL JAM 17, will take place at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, CA.
