Holdly Ep

Description

Florist was born in the Catskill Mountains, born from the friendship between Emily Sprague, Rick Spataro, and Jonnie Baker, later joined by Felix Walworth. Holdly (2015) and The Birds Outside Sang (2016) bear witness to the early moments of this friendship: intimate and authentic songs, imbued with both tenderness and resilience. This latter album was composed after Emily Sprague's serious bicycle accident, beginning in solitude and ending with the band's reunion, offering a portrait of healing, solidarity, and the power of music shared among friends. These recordings became the cornerstones of Florist's universe: both quiet and vast, deeply personal yet universal in scope. Since then, Florist has explored these themes across four other albums. If Blue Could Be Happiness (2017) offered a meditation on grief and memory, while Emily Alone (2019) distilled Sprague's voice into solitary, stripped-down reflections, before the band reunited for the eponymous album Florist (2022), the culmination of their collaborative spirit. More recently, Jellywish (2025) saw the quartet embrace surrealism and imagination, capturing both the magic and the weight of existence. Ten years later, the reissue of Holdly and The Birds Outside Sang highlights the origins of this journey, preserving the tenderness and friendship at the heart of Florist while tracing the roots of a band that continues to evolve with wonder and kindness.
