BICHES BLEUES (vinyl)

Description

After his acclaimed first album "Le diable et son train", Florian Pellissier returns with a new quintet album. The lineup hasn't changed, but the style has become more assertive, and "Biches Bleues" should further establish Florian Pellissier on the French jazz scene. The pianist can be found behind numerous musically varied projects: Latin Funk with SETENTA, jazz funk with COTONETE, or Brazilian with CAMARO ORKESTRA, and the members of his quintet are also part of other prominent groups: Yoann Loustalot (trumpet, flugelhorn) in Lucky Dog / vintage orchestra, Christophe Panzani (saxophone) in Electro-Deluxe, Thieves / The drops /, Yoni Zelnik (double bass) in Yonathan Avishai Trio / Romain Pilon Trio / Sandro Zerafa Quintet, David Georgelet (drums) in Akalé Wubé / Cotonete. While this LP features classic hard bop themes like "J'ai dû rêver" and a cover of Wayne Shorter's rarely played "Dance Cadaverous," Florian Pellissier has also ventured into more personal territory on tracks like "5 minutes avant la fin" or "Arumis," or more modal or spiritual pieces with "Biches Bleues" or "Valse pour Hélène" by the late Jef Gilson, the godfather and posthumously recognized figure of an entire segment of the French jazz scene. Throughout these 9 tracks, Florian Pellissier's distinctive touch is evident: precisely crafted themes and a swing that brings freshness and modernity to his compositions. In short, a European echo to contemporary American jazz, a musician who reveals himself with simplicity on these 9 tracks—that's the program of "Biches Bleues."
