Promises
Description
Promises is an extraordinary collaborative album between electronic artist Floating Points and saxophone titan Pharoah Sanders. The album also features the London-based group The London Symphony Orchestra. The album cover was created by American visual artist Julie Mehretu. Five years after its creation, Promises will be released on Luaka Bop, the label of New York-based David Byrne (frontman of the band Talking Heads). The album is composed by Sam Shepherd, aka Floating Points, whose second album Crush received various awards and was the subject of an article in the New York Times. His first album Elaenia, released on Luaka Bop, was hailed as one of the best electronic projects of the decade. It was also the release that made Pharoah Sanders want to work with him. A constantly evolving producer, Shepherd also holds a PhD in neuroscience. For Pharoah Sanders, who recently turned 80, this is a rare release and his first album in fifteen years. One of the last icons of his generation, Pharoah played with John Coltrane on his free jazz masterpieces and released a series of legendary recordings for the Impulse! label, which have been cited as a defining influence on all the greatest artists, from the Stooges to Marvin Gaye. More recently, he participated in the 2020 campaign for the streetwear brand Supreme. The music of Promises unfolds patiently in nine movements, over 46 minutes that flow endlessly. It is a work of pure emotion, a unique record unlike any other you will hear this year.Buy Promises at the best price
