MAGDALENE

Description

In late 2012, FKA Twigs released her very first EP, EP1, and quickly became one of the most inspiring artists of her generation, thanks to her experimental electronic productions and, of course, her voice, which whispers sweet nothings in your ear. But it was with EP2, produced by Arca, that she was propelled to the top. Her first album, LP1, followed, nominated for Grammys and the Mercury Prize, and featuring productions by Sampha, Dev Hynes, and Paul Epworth. Magdalene is therefore her second opus, mostly produced by Nicolas Jaar and recorded between London, New York, and Los Angeles. On it, FKA Twigs reflects on several painful episodes of recent years (illness, past loves,...). She appears raw and vulnerable, as evidenced by the magnificent first single, "Cellophane," which is utterly desperate. "This album has something very fragile about it. I made it during my recovery—physical and mental—and I think you can really feel that." Twigs' voice has never sounded as clear and powerful as it does on Magdalene, an ambitious, successful album reminiscent of the best years of Kate Bush's career.
