FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS

Description

This double CD edition features some truly great songs, starting with the three singles: the upbeat "Johnny Come Home" and "Blue" (two singles with lyrics that are anything but foolish, especially the latter, which criticizes Margaret Thatcher while she was still in office), and an excellent cover of Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds," which one would never have imagined could be so danceable. These tracks offer a good perspective of what the band is capable of. This is likely due to the benefit of artists originally from an alternative movement, Andy Cox and David Steele, and the British ska revival, whose influence is still fleetingly felt. They also managed to find a rather unique vocalist in Roland Gift to honor the soul and groove direction they wanted to bring to their new creation.
