The art of fugue

Italian pianist Filippo Gorini took advantage of the global health crisis to immerse himself in The Art of Fugue, the mystical and unfinished masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach: "The idea that it should only be considered a purely theoretical jewel is mistaken: as counterpoints and canons gain in formal complexity, their emotional tension progresses accordingly, right up to the heartbreaking mystery of the last, incomplete fugue," says the young pianist, winner of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust in 2020 and whose first two albums on Alpha have received excellent acclaim (Diapason d'Or, 5 Stars BBC Music Magazine...). Alongside the album's release, Filippo Gorini is launching a website (www.TheArtOfFugueExplored.com), featuring a documentary series of conversations with personalities, films about Bach's work... The young pianist has taken his exploration as far as writing poems and haikus about the work: "We pray in fear, When the blessed night comes".
