Felt is a pop group from the 1980s. It was formed in Birmingham in 1979 by Lawrence (singer and guitarist) and Maurice Deebank (guitarist), who left the group in 1986, replaced by organist/keyboardist Martin Duffy. Felt released a first album, Crumbling the Antiseptic Beauty in 1981 on the Cherry Red label and had some success with the albums Ignite the Seven Cannons (1985) produced by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), the very pop Forever Breathes The Lonely Word (1986) and their final album, Me And A Monkey On The Moon (1989) produced by Adrian Borland, singer of The Sound. Originally, Felt's sound and compositions were quite obscure, almost cold wave. The group then evolved, turning towards much more pop and sometimes sixties universes, due to the frequent use of the Hammond organ. Felt is cited as a major influence by many pop and rock groups, for example Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian or Tim Burgess of The Charlatans. The group disbanded according to the wish of their whimsical and strange leader, Lawrence, who wanted to release 10 albums in ten years. Here is the 1st album released in 1981.
