A new Fela Kuti classic to (re)discover: Original Sufferhead‘Original Sufferhead’ opens with a sparse, otherworldly improvisation featuring Fela’s new band, Egypt 80, before morphing into a brassy, complexly structured Afrobeat anthem decrying the plight of the Nigerian masses. “Let’s sing a beautiful song together,” Fela suggests, as the chorus rides on his agile saxophone melody.‘Original Sufferhead’ was included in Box Set #5, curated by Chris Martin and Femi Kuti. It has been reissued on light green opaque vinyl.-
