Fela Kuti’s “Gentleman” reissued for its 50th anniversary!
Released in 1973, 'Gentleman' is the last of Fela's transitional albums from the early 1970s – it was followed by 'Alagbon Close' in 1974, on which he brought together all the iconic ingredients of Afrobeat.
On its flagship song, "Gentleman", we hear one of Fela's most incisive lyrics, sung in call-and-response with the backing vocalists: "I am not a gentleman at all".
Gentleman – 50th Anniversary will be reissued as a limited vinyl edition on June 23, a few days after the end of the 'Afrobeat Rebellion' exhibition, which closes on June 11 at the Philharmonie de Paris.
