Backwoodz Studioz is proud to announce the release of Crayola Circles, a collaboration between rapper Fatboi Sharif and producer Child Actor. While both artists have long-standing ties with Backwoodz, this album marks their very first collaboration and opens new artistic perspectives for each of them. Sharif's previous album, Decay, released on Backwoodz in 2023, was a masterpiece of haunting experimental rap, an intense psychedelic experience. On Crayola Circles, Sharif moves away from menacing psychedelia to a subtle and captivating luminous expressionism, his verses flowing effortlessly through the waves of Child Actor's masterful production. Regardless of the intensity of the atmosphere, Sharif remains serene, like a mouthpiece of truth whispering riddles in your ear. This album also marks a new step in Child Actor's exploration of his universe. Since the release of CINE, a collaboration with rapper Cavalier, on the Backwoodz label in late 2024, producer Child Actor has been on a roll. His name can be found on the covers of albums as diverse as those of Navy Blue (The Sword & The Soaring), Earl Sweatshirt (Live, Laugh, Love), ELUCID (Revelator), Open Mike Eagle (Neighborhood Gods Unlimited), and Ghais Guevara (A Quest to Self-Mythologize), among others. On Crayola Circles, his production is dynamic, moving from one section to another with remarkable fluidity. The rich and complex rhythms flirt with jazz and folk, while maintaining the delicate minimalism that characterizes him. A difficult balance for a producer to strike, and here perfectly mastered, immersing us in a world of wood and brass, leather and underwater piano. On any other album, this soundscape would steal the show (and it almost does), but Sharif's mastery remains unwavering. A lucid dreamer plunged into an artificial coma. There are no guests, no skits, no interludes. There may not even be songs. Crayola Circles is more like a great river: unique, flowing through forests and jungles, mountains and valleys, from its mouth to the infinite ocean.
