Cantar de amor - chansons et musique espagnole du 17e s.

Description

In "Cantar de Amor," Fahmi Alqhai and the Accademia del Piacere are joined by another Andalusian musician, Juan Sancho, a tenor celebrated for his work in opera. This record is a remarkable journey through the maze of love songs from 17th century Spain. Many of the airs included in this record are by Juan Hidalgo, the most important composer of the time. Despite the loss of a large number of works in the fire that ravaged Madrid in 1734, Juan Sancho and the Accademia del Piacere have gathered an excellent selection of songs that express with a distinctly Spanish theatricality (!) love and its torments. Alqhai and his instrumentalists deliver a dynamic interpretation of a series of chaconnes and passacailles that allow us to reach the musical heart of a Spain that was then rejecting the cultural influence of other European countries.
