Friends since the age of six, the majority of the album was written and recorded by the Liverpool duo when they were nineteen. The songs possess all the singular magic of a duo who write and perform together whilst sounding like a full, full-sounding band. Their early EP title track ‘Two Monkeys’, included here, has a shoegazey level of filth that will leave many distortion maniacs reeling. ‘Every Word Said’ is prog-pop perfection. The title track is as moody as any Flying Saucer Attack song. ‘Another One Making Clouds’ evolves over 35 minutes and never ceases to elevate and surprise. One of our label’s founding ideas was to release recordings made how the musicians originally intended them. No ‘notes’ and no re-recording with a ‘proper’ producer in a ‘proper’ studio. A noble preference that we have seen labels like Rough Trade pursue with The Strokes, The Smiths, The Fall and al. This album is a proud example of it. And captures something you cannot fake. A young band finding an epic, emotional and cinematic sound in their bedroom. Using it in that typically British way to express the wonder, confusion and heartbreak of being nineteen. Of wanting to be seen and not being seen. This is a kind of British ‘soul’ music with ancestors like The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Jesus & Mary Chain and the original shoegaze bands. Progressive guitar music, channelling deep emotion, a yearning to hear something that sounds like how you feel inside. The things nobody talks about. Everything else.
