The composer Dominique Vellard invites us on a unique musical journey! The new album by the Ensemble Gilles Binchois is devoted to the compositions of its founder and director, Dominique Vellard. In Cantar del alma, alongside Eva Zaïcik, the Quatuor Debussy, Ourania Lampropoulou on santouri and Xenia Maliarevitch on piano, he interweaves his own compositions, most often vocal works, and his arrangements of folk music drawn largely from the traditions of the Mediterranean basin. These two facets thus reveal the artistic personality of the composer, nourished by his practice of medieval and Renaissance repertoires, folk and world music, as well as by the legacy of Fauré, Berio, Bartók and de Falla. In this crossroad of musical worlds, the voice stands out as the guiding thread of a clear, balanced and refined writing style, which stands apart from contemporary musical creation.
