Erykah Badu and The Alchemist announce the physical release of their collaborative album Before the World Blows: The Abi and Alan Experiment via Control FREAQ Records / Young Recordings. Co-produced by both artists, the album was recorded over a period of 18 months between Dallas and Los Angeles. It represents the inevitable meeting of two iconoclastic minds: hypnotic, funny, direct, deeply personal, and impossible to confine to a single category. The Abi and Alan Experiment began over three years ago through Cold Cris, a long-time collaborator of Badu. The exchanges between the two artists quickly transformed into a true collaborative project. The Alchemist sent Erykah Badu a collection of instrumentals that she deconstructed and reshaped to give them their own identity, enriching his warm and impactful samples with various instruments, ranging from delicate kalimba notes to immersive layers of chords and percussion. The result freely navigates between soul, blues, funk, rock, jazz, and underground hip-hop, without fully belonging to any of these genres.
