+ 1 bonus trackThe entire original album by Erroll Garner, "Concert by the Sea", which became the best-selling record of his career. The album was recorded on September 19, 1955, in the assembly hall of Sunset School (now the Sunset Arts Center) in California. Garner was accompanied by bassist Eddie Calhoun and drummer Denzil Best. There were no plans to officially record the concert. The album's release came about because Garner's personal manager, Martha Glaser, noticed a tape recorder running backstage and decided to use the recording, which was originally intended for the Armed Forces Radio Network. Glaser took the recording, turned it into an album, and then played it for George Avakian, head of Columbia Records' jazz division, who decided to release it.
