In 2020, composer Eric Demarsan revisited Melville with the soundtrack for the documentary: Melville, the Last Samurai. A score for octet, featuring Erik Truffaz on trumpet and Bruno Fontaine on piano. A contemporary perspective, blending jazz and lyricism, on a filmmaker haunted by night and fate.
In 1969-70, with the historic double feature *Army of Shadows* and *Le Cercle Rouge*, Eric Demarsan became the only composer to score two Melville feature films. Half a century later, in an unprecedented situation in cinema history, he returned to Melville by composing the soundtrack for Cyril Leuthy's documentary, *Melville, the Last Samurai*, an intimate portrait of the filmmaker in a Stetson.
