"Souty": Emel Mathlouthi's Feminist Pop Light
Emel Mathlouthi, a committed and globetrotting artist, is releasing her new album "MRA" on April 19, 2024. This album, four years in the making, is a love letter to sisterhood, diversity, and equality. Emel, known for her folk tracks and her album "The Tunis Diaries," explores hip-hop this time with exclusively female collaborations. "MRA" is a musical reflection on urban and electronic sounds, representing a call for female emancipation. The title "MRA" means "woman" in Tunisian dialect, thus expressing different struggles. Each song is a true story, testifying to the daily struggles of women with tenderness and determination. Emel celebrates diversity and inclusion throughout this album, which also explores personal and universal subjects, drawing inspiration from remarkable women such as Amalia Rodriguez, Barbara, and MIA.
