Elvis' 50th Anniversary edition of "Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite" – newly remixed and remastered for the occasion – will be available as a 3-CD + Blu-ray combo set and as a 2-LP set. Recorded live on January 12 and 14, 1973, at the Honolulu International Center Arena (capacity approximately 6,000 people) and broadcast to over a billion televisions worldwide, Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite made broadcasting history as Elvis and emerging global satellite technology instantly connected a major artist with his audience on a scale never before achieved. Initially, Elvis' January 14 concert was broadcast live via satellite to viewers in Asia and Oceania and shown on a delayed basis in January in Europe. To avoid a programming conflict with Super Bowl VII and given the success of the "Elvis on Tour" film in U.S. cinemas, NBC decided to broadcast its 90-minute version of Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite (with bonus recorded performances for U.S. broadcast) on April 4, 1973. Aloha from Hawaii became NBC's most popular program of the year.
