Heavy Sounds

Description

Legendary drummer Elvin Jones played with numerous greats, including Art Tatum, Donald Byrd, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, and Wayne Shorter, to name but a few. Released in 1968, "Heavy Sounds" was recorded in '67 and brings together one of the genre's most iconic rhythm sections. The collaboration between drummer Elvin Jones and bassist Richard Davis features a quartet that was originally intended to be a trio with guitarist Larry Coryell. In Coryell's absence, the session quickly turned into an improvisation, further clarifying the intentions of album producer Bob Thiele. Following this completely improvised session, the duo swiftly brought in other musicians to form a quartet that would lay down a magical groove. Alongside this duo, Foster (saxophone) and Billy Greene (piano) deliver a performance that has been reissued on 180-gram audiophile-mastered vinyl.
