Word On The Street

Description

Word on the Street is the debut American album from Canadian singer-songwriter Elle Barbara. Word on the Street was written, composed, arranged, and produced by Elle Barbara, in close collaboration with Renny Wilson, who recorded, engineered, and mixed the album. Word on the Street is a triumph against class warfare and nepotism, as well as a shameless testament to how a low-income, welfare-receiving Black transsexual woman beat the odds, using all the resources to make the music of her mind and completely disregarding music industry conventions. With a wide range of influences, including Todd Rundgren’s A Wizard, a True Star, Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain, and Rexy’s Running Out of Time, each track on Word on the Street, in addition to being highly melodic, evokes unique incongruous images, composed of corrupt legal systems, Nostradamus prophecies, and the Montreal Canadiens hockey team.
