MOROSPHYNX

Description

Self-proclaimed Afro-Rockers, Electric Safari is a collective of musicians from diverse backgrounds, brought together by Afrobeat and composing collaboratively. Their two previous EPs were produced in-house, in their rehearsal space, through self-production. The first, "Golden Tandoori," brings together their Afrobeat, Soul, Rock, and Deep Funk influences. Later, they met Congolese singer and percussionist Renaud Bilombo, with whom they recorded "Bwenissa," the result of a year of collaboration during which they explored new facets of African music to enrich their compositions. In 2016, the band chose to record their first studio album. Entitled the enigmatic "Morosphinx" and largely instrumental, like a return to the roots of the first EP, it nonetheless always leaves room for vocals on the sung track "Crocodile" or backing vocals on the eponymous track. The track "Olusosun" serves as the backdrop for a ghetto anthem. Evocative of the world's largest landfill, in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, it is a contemporary and surreal painting of our world. In "The Robber," a frantic soundtrack to a chase with Maloya accents, we are there, breathless, surprised by unexpected breaks. We eventually take off on a turbosurf carried by waves of telecaster. Electric Safari continues to champion a cinematic universe, describing urban or desert landscapes, juxtaposing dark melodies and sweaty beats.
