Nino Rota has connections to neo-classical, neo-romantic, and even neo-baroque styles. His music emphasizes clear melodies and a communicative generosity, so it’s not surprising that he is primarily known for his film scores - particularly the music for The Godfather. The 15 Preludes by Nino Rota use melodic and harmonic explorations to create music that is both agitated and melancholic, but also joyful and comedic. The Fantasy in G features seven themes - folkloric, funny, and ultimately heroic. The late piece 7 Pezzi Difficili per bambini is generous in its emotional frankness. Pianist Eleanor Hodgkinson divides her time between performing, teaching, analyzing, and writing. A versatile chamber musician, she has participated in numerous collaborations and has created many pieces of British music. Notable partners include the Villiers Quartet, cellist Nick Stringfellow, and pianist Jakob Fichert. Her solo recitals have taken her to North America, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, and France. Hodgkinson studied piano at the Royal Northern College of Music with Renna Kellaway before specializing in piano accompaniment with Carole Presland. Based in Leicestershire, Hodgkinson is a piano professor at Leeds College of Music and teaches piano and chamber music at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music.
