Winner of the Sibelius Society Medal, Eero Heinonen has long championed the composer's lesser-known piano works. With this recording, he continues to advocate for music that does not easily yield its secrets but, in the right hands, resonates with Sibelius's unique voice. Sibelius was not himself an accomplished pianist, but he wrote for the instrument—on which he composed—throughout his career, asserting that, though often overlooked, its time would come. In recent years, his prediction has come true, notably with the suite of five pieces Op. 75, composed in 1914 and titled \"The Trees.\" The work evolves from a Tchaikovskian melancholy, common in his early piano compositions, to impressionistic studies of light and darkness, culminating in the dark, dissonant harmonies of the final piece (\"The Spruce\"), evoking orchestral masterpieces such as En Saga and Tapiola. Rather than selecting excerpts from a substantial body of work, Eero Heinonen has chosen to present four complete opuses that nonetheless illustrate the full richness of Sibelius's piano writing. In the Six Impromptus Op. 5 (1890-1893), he brilliantly integrates elements of Finnish folk music within the fantasy language inherited from Schubert and Chopin. The Ten Pieces Op. 24 were written between 1895 and 1903—formative years for the composer, during which he moved away from his German-influenced training and forged a more distinctly Finnish voice, while remaining within the genre of salon pieces. These are the works most directly comparable to Grieg's Lyric Pieces. Then, before the masterpieces of Op. 75, he composed a trio of Sonatinas Op. 67 in 1912, around the same time as the tormented Fourth Symphony. The first of these, performed here by Eero Heinonen, shares with the symphony a certain austerity and introverted nature. Every gesture is charged with meaning, often mysterious and hesitant, even in the seemingly carefree first movement.","brand":"Eero Heinonen","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57475789979992,"sku":null,"price":20260128.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/eero-heinonen_sibelius-musique-pour-piano_2026_disco-outhere-distribution-france","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
