A master's diary

Description

Between Fiorenzo Carpi, the musician trained in twelve-tone theories and raised in the knowledge of Italian popular melodies, and Giorgio Strehler, the virtuoso director, the "agreement" was immediate. Fiorenzo Carpi mastered the difficult and humble art of complementing, enriching with mystery the lives of the creatures directed by the theater manager, without really illustrating, slipping into the intervals, embroidering breaths, infusing rhythms. These music pieces for the stage and for cinema were much more and much better than mere accompaniments: they were vital, giving an extra soul to the already so inhabited performances of Strehler, Louis Malle, Comencini, Chéreau. The trio, full of emotion and restrained lyricism, breathes new life into the greatest successes of the Italian composer, not forgetting of course the famous theme from "The Adventures of Pinocchio."
