FEATURING STEVE HACKETT, DAMIAN WILSON AND ARJEN LUCASSEN
History repeats itself. Haven't we heard that phrase before? (Not only is it a frequently heard comment, it is also the main theme of a new double album by Edward Reekers called "The Liberty Project"). What is it about? A rock opera, a musical, a concept album? A mix of all three? Yes.
"I wanted to create a story within a story, so I introduced 2 characters who fall in love, separate and find each other again," Reeker explains. "Around them, a society in turmoil where politicians, bankers and journalists, among others, comment on the situation they are facing." Reeker adds: "The recording process was an overwhelming experience for me. Having composed all the music and written all the lyrics for the project, it was truly a dream come true for me to hear it come to life with so many great musicians and vocalists who shared their wonderful talent with me."
The album's 17 tracks are the result of these efforts. What immediately strikes you is the diversity of the material: from ballads to heavy metal, pop songs, rock-oriented power tracks, authentic blues and almost classical instrumentals. So is it a rock opera? Yes. Is it a musical? Yes. Is it a concept album? Without a doubt!
