Born in Paris from a Death… - that of the goldfish Edgar, but also the title of their first album - the wacky and acidic trio edgar déception has been offering its astonishing “emotional elevator music” since 2017, drawing from all branches of punk, emo, and pop for the most mischievous melodies and the most spirited rhythms. An unclassifiable whatever pop tested before audiences in almost all of France's small venues, which never leaves anyone indifferent. After their cassette EDGAR RÉCEPTION (2017), a well-received first LP two years later (Décès… 2019) then a second, clown clown dead (Howlin’ Banana Records, Flippin’ Freaks Records, 2022), Ption is the band’s brand new musical tour de force. In the continuity of its predecessors, this new album is the fruit of a holistic writing process. Conceived as a fantastic descent down a volcano’s chimney, it begins with an eruptive track, as if one were projected into the heart of chaos and sulfur, and then intensifies: one reaches the chemical core of the magma. Fed by edgar déception’s usual musical influences (of Montreal, Alex G, Girlpool…), it continues to push the boundaries in all directions, keeping the power trio that is the band's signature at its center. More prominent use of synthesizers, more accomplished vocal arrangements… One hears everyone’s sensitivity, in a cleverly balanced mixture of mastery and frenzy.
