The Swedish musician has been recording with his band Dungen for two decades now, and while he has been hailed as one of the most sharp and adventurous musicians in the psych scene since their first album Ta det Lungt (2004), for him, psych music has always been just a starting point. En Är For Mycket och Tusen Aldrig Nog (One Is Too Much And A Thousand Is Not Enough) is the first studio album since Allas Sak released in 2015. The album goes further than any Dungen record to date. There are classic psychedelic explosions and the kind of brilliant vocal harmonies he has long made his trademark. There are mellow, dragging grooves that turn into cosmic revelations. There are intimate songs guided by Gustav and his piano, which he plays so softly it sounds like he's trying not to wake someone in the next room. Drummer Johan Holmegard's monstrous sounds intertwine with frantic drum'n'bass programming inspired by 90s British hardcore jungle mixes. At times, the album verges on Screamadelica-esque sunshine pop, sometimes it clicks at 160bpm. The album was recorded in Sweden with producer Mattias Glavå, who had worked on Allas Sak. Mattias' creative input was crucial to the record and helped Gustav question his preconceived ideas about his own music. Similarly, the band members - guitarist Fiske, bassist Gustavsson, and drummer Holmegaard - encouraged him to push his ideas further. Many of the album's songs find their emotion in his relatively recent sobriety, marking the first album he has recorded without being under the influence. As with many newly sober artists, he feared that his creative abilities might be linked to consumption. On the contrary, sobriety plunged him even deeper into music. Since their beginnings, he has used Dungen as a way to deconstruct the music he finds interesting, whether it be Scandinavian folk, freak acid rock, jazz, or jungle.
