INSTRUMENTAL LIVE ALBUM FROM THE SWEDISH BAND
BETWEEN PSYCHEDELIC ROCK, PROG & STONER
Those who have had the chance to see Dungen live are aware of the transformative experience that awaits them, of how the band assembles a delicate and ardent tapestry of songs. *Live*, Dungen's new album, is the shimmering golden thread that holds it all together. It showcases the band on their home turf, maintaining for the occasion a fiery performance and breathtaking solos, elements of their most inspired moments assembled into a single piece by producer Matthias Glava, who worked on *Stadsvandringar*, *Allas Sak*, and *Häxan*. *Live* was recorded in late November 2015, at the Stora Teatern in Gothenburg and the Victoriateatern in Malmö. Gustav Ejstes appears to be at the top of his game, directing currents of energy and melody with the precision of an air traffic controller. We find the masterful touch of guitarist Reine Fiske, who also excels on the Mellotron. Bassist Mattias Gustavsson and drummer Johan Holmegard are as imperturbable as ever, holding the whole together like a wildly stirring backbone. Joined on these occasions by Swedish saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar, these were undoubtedly intense experiences. Entirely instrumental, including a cover of Doug Jerebine's "Ain't So Hard To Do," *Live* highlights what Dungen does best: attacking music with the pure soul of a fan and the incandescent virtuosity of a master. *Live* contains the quintessence of the band, its soaring flights, its moments of improvisation, that cohesion born from sound, all that has elevated it to the pinnacle of the psychedelic movement.
