DROPDEAD CHAOS
Underneath The Sound
March 2020, France experiences its first lockdown due to the COVID-19 health crisis. The artistic world freezes, stunned by an event no one had ever experienced before.
Yet, it was from this historically disorienting moment that DROPDEAD CHAOS would be born.
Initially a collective of musicians from the French and international rock and metal scene, this musical entity quickly realized it wanted to be a band.
Comprising Boris (Betraying the Martyrs), Jacou (Black Bomb A), Baptiste (Smash Hit Combo), Nils (Sirenia), Déha (Maladie, Wolvennest...), and Renato (Trepalium, Les Tambours du Bronx), DROPDEAD CHAOS released three singles in eight months with the support of HK, producer at Vamacara studio, who has worked with Loudblast, Bukowski, Black Bomb A, Sirenia, Sinsaenum, Les Tambours du Bronx, Dagoba, Betraying the Martyrs, among others.
Following these three singles, there was a desire to give DROPDEAD CHAOS a true identity. This is how the six members and their producer began composing their first album: Underneath The Sound.
From the very first track – "Underneath The Sound" with its almost a cappella intro that gradually builds in intensity – DROPDEAD CHAOS demonstrates that it is not just a "supergroup" of individuals but a metal band with a genuine musical proposition. The tracks flow, and the band successfully transitions from metal ("One Last Encore" and its relentless chorus) to hip-hop ("What I’ve Learnt" with its stripped-down production and rap vocals). The album concludes with "Rainman," a good synthesis of DROPDEAD CHAOS's sound: the instrumentation is heavy yet refined, and the two voices of Renato and Déha combine wonderfully for a breathtaking finale.
