Premier album entièrement composé et enregistré avec le nouveau batteur Mike Mangini, qui a remplacé Mike Portnoy avant l'enregistrement de leur précédent album « A Dramatic Turn of Events » (entrée #14 du top IFOP en 2011), cet album éponyme est attendu par des milliers de fans en France comme dans le monde. Produit comme à leur habitude par John Petrucci et mixé par, Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush), « Dream Theater » est le 12ème album studio du groupe.
