{"product_id":"dream-mega_control-you-are-not-the-center_2026_mdl","title":"Control + You Are Not The Center","description":"During a recent DREAM_MEGA show, Joel Kyack, alone on stage, unleashed a sonic torrent upon the audience. Overwhelmed by the ominous frequencies, invasive rhythms, and dissonant, untamed vocals, one spectator leaned over to another and whispered: “I think this guy is summoning demons.” Whether uttered with terror or admiration, this accusation rings true in the face of DREAM_MEGA’s second album, Control \/ You Are Not the Center. The album is steeped in menace: it is perceptible in the mutant war chants, the dancehall backwash, the throbbing bass; it is perceptible in the crystalline melodies and nostalgic ascensions; it is even perceptible in the Guided by Voices cover. Joel’s relationship with unsettling sounds – the demonic invocation – spans decades. His long-standing commitment to Landed, a band he co-founded in 1997, continues alongside his contributions to Six Finger Satellite, Men’s Recovery Project, Megafuckers, Dos Mega, and Street Buddy. This unwavering drive explains the frenzy that characterizes his current work, but Dream_Mega clearly stands apart. Born from Joel’s near-death experience in 2020 – a grueling week of isolation in Thailand, spitting blood and drenching his sheets – DREAM_MEGA occupies a unique space at the crossroads of confrontation and surrender. Drawing on his experiences with hardcore shows and street performances, Joel propels DREAM_MEGA into a paradoxical state where hypervigilance and liberating transcendence coexist. The tracks on Control \/ You Are Not the Center look at our absurd and dangerous world with a clear eye, much like a Dropdead song, but they simultaneously alleviate the weight of this disaster, offering us ethereal respite. This is partly due to Joel’s compositional approach, which blends ancient wind instruments with digital synthesizers, crossing artificial circuits with human breath. But the very essence of this music lies in Joel's imperative need, in the dead of night, to confront his fear, his sadness, and his glimmers of hope, and to transform them into something that can, despite everything, keep his heart alive. It is an act of lucidity and survival instinct so skillfully orchestrated that every listener can feel the demons at work in their own heart. Control \/ You Are Not the Center features sonic contributions from Ryan Weinstein (Coffin Prick), Cordey Lopez, and Lisa Anne Auerbach. It is recommended for fans of Hassell \u0026 Eno's Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics, Houston's chopped and screwed scene, and Captain Beefheart.","brand":"Dream_Mega","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":56621602275672,"sku":null,"price":20260320.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/0784300942269.jpg?v=1771011145","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/dream-mega_control-you-are-not-the-center_2026_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
