Turning Point

Description

An atypical organist, Dr. Lonnie Smith's destiny would long be linked to that of George Benson and Lou Donaldson, with whom he would appear on some of Blue Note's greatest soul jazz albums. Released in 1969, 'Turning Point' was unanimously acclaimed by jazz lovers on the fringes of rhythm'n'blues, to which the musician was very attached. The powerful and precise groove of Idriss Muhammad's drums admirably supported the assaults of the "Doc"'s Hammond Organ and Lee Morgan's trumpet. Once again, the soul jazz wizard paid a strong tribute to the Memphis sound with a cover of Steve Cropper (Stax guitarist) and to British pop with an excellent interpretation of Eleanor Rigby by Liverpool's Fab Four.
