Things Happen That Way is the new and final studio album completed by Dr. John's family and friends after his tragic passing in 2019.
For this opus, the artist tackles the repertoire of his childhood: Country & Western music, once popularized by Ray Charles. Surrounded by New Orleans' finest musicians and some special guests (Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville…), Dr. John once again manages to appropriate a charmingly simple traditional genre to create an enchanting work.
Throughout his six-decade career, Dr. John, a self-proclaimed and massively revered sorcerer of psychedelic voodoo, never ceased to blend blues, jazz, funk, and R&B to forge a complex and utterly unique musical identity.
