Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based indie psychedelic pop/rock band Dr. Dog returns with Critical Equation, their 10th studio album. With this new album produced by Gus Seyffert (Beck, Norah Jones, Bedouine, Michael Kiwanuka), the band appears transformed, revitalized. After a six-month hiatus to take stock of things individually, the band members are back stronger than ever. Recorded analog on a 16-track, the album opens with "Listening In," immediately showcasing their eccentric 60s pop and fuzzy 70s rock. On "Go Out Fighting," a vintage Hammond organ confronts a frantic guitar while McMicken sings a mantra of perseverance. The dreamy "Buzzing in the Light" layers harmonies and contemplates the universe, "True Love" is a haunting heartbreak, while the equally catchy "Heart Killer" is full of joy and humor. Refreshed and propelled by Seyffert, who broadens their sound, Dr. Dog delivers their most exhilarating and audacious album!
