Following "American Don," Don Caballero experienced a period of intense internal tensions and questioned the sound of their studio recordings. The band, a major figure in math rock, developed instrumental music based on guitar loops, complex structures, and rigorous tempos, but felt at the time that the raw energy of their compositions had been partially diluted in the studio. To recapture the essence of their tracks, Don Caballero decided to re-record them to more faithfully transcribe the energy of this album as played live. These takes capture a more direct, faster, and uninhibited sound, true to how the tracks took shape on stage in the late 1990s. Twenty-five years later, these recordings have been restored, remixed, and mastered for the first time, offering new insight into the band's intensity and radicalism.
