"Distant Populations," only the fourth full-length album of Quicksand's career, is a relatively quick follow-up to the last album "Interiors," which was released 22 years after its predecessor, 1995's "Manic Compression." Critically acclaimed, "Interiors" successfully re-established the band as the powerful and contemporary entity it always was. "Distant Populations" has a punchier and more rhythmic sound than its predecessor; its 11 songs are concise and carved sonic gems, with no lost notes; and its raw power, its striking lyricism, jumps out at you from the first listen. It is a remarkable step forward for the band.
