In 1993, Dionysos was born in Valence, experiencing their first thrills and mosh pits with high school friends after a handful of rehearsals in the back of the family garage. Thirty years have passed, and Dionysos is still here with a new album, "L'Extraordinarium," which revisits three decades of success with an impressive lineup of guests. This is not a best-of—absolutely not!—but an expanded version of a rich and protean body of work that owes much to the boundless imagination of Mathias Malzieu, who is both Peter Pan and a volcano-man, an over-energized frontman and a delicate crooner with refined writing. For Dionysos' first album on the Tôt ou Tard label, Jack the Giant, Miss Acacia, Tom Cloudman, Doctor Madeleine, Mister Chat, and company came to blow out the candles on a huge birthday cake with Olivia Ruiz, -M-, Emily Loizeau, Aldebert, Keren Ann, Arthur Teboul, Mademoiselle K, Last Train, Daria Nelson, Voyou, Emmanuelle Monet (Dolly), Troy von Balthazar, Fredrika Stahl, François Busnel, Clou, Sly Johnson, and Bernard Werber. An album that sounds like the soundtrack to Mathias Malzieu's complete novels, to be released in early November 2023 (by Le Livre de Poche). To (re)set this dreamlike but never nostalgic epic to music and record three new tracks, Mathias Malzieu reunited with his lifelong "toys" and companions in the mythical ICP studios in Brussels: Babet's violin and voice, Miky Biky's electric guitars, Rico's drums, and Stephano's bass and musical instruments. Two weeks of joyful reinvention gave birth to a raw-sounding album, reflecting Dionysos' explosive stage presence. Conveniently, the return of the Jedi to their audience is imminent. Dionysos, expected at the Zénith de Paris on April 4, 2024, and on tour throughout France next year, from large venues to festivals, promises a 360-degree rock 'n' roll show.
