Escrito En Agua

Description

Diles Que No Me Maten is a group of five musicians from Mexico City. Their art rock, influenced by krautrock, has evolved into a truly singular music: nervy, poetic, and imbued with an overflowing improvisational instinct. Their fourth album, Escrito en Agua, scheduled for June 12 on Moonlight Activities, is their most accomplished and accessible work to date. Recorded in an improvised studio in Santa María La Ribera with producer Sebastián Rojas, it revolves around a discreet drum set, deliberate silences, and the spiritual depth of Oaxacan funeral music. The album exudes a serene confidence, the result of long labor. Escrito en Agua explores themes of presence, wandering, and resilience; songs that dwell on ambiguity rather than resolving it. The first single, "Hiriku," sets the tone, blending frenetic krautrock with verses from José Vicente Anaya's visionary poem Híkuri, while the title track "No me" transforms a mantra of assurance into a far more complex emotional experience. Dedicated both to the indigenous morning star Tunuwame and to the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, the album ends as it begins: with quiet transcendence, attentive to the smallest details of what it means to be alive.
