Sonates en trio Opus 2
Description
The form of the sonata concertata is perfectly illustrated by these trio pieces by Dietrich Buxtehude, which, according to Peter Wollny, represent "a milestone in the history of the sonata." They provide a better understanding of a composer whose fame was mainly associated with his cantatas and organ works, as well as the admiration held for him by the young Johann Sebastian Bach, who walked 400 kilometers to attend his classes. After an opus dedicated to Buxtehude's first collection of chamber sonatas (ALPHA367), the musicians of Arcangelo (Sophie Gent, Jonathan Manson, Thomas Dunford, and Jonathan Cohen) bring to life the pieces from the second collection, published in 1696. One can perceive the multiple European influences (Baltic, Italian, German, French) that flourished in Lübeck, the northern German city where Buxtehude served as the organist of St. Mary's Church; but also in Hamburg, where this collection was printed.Buy Sonates en trio Opus 2 at the best price
