Description

This unusual CD is subtitled "Vince Benedetti meets Diana Krall." Benedetti, a Swiss trombone player, randomly met Krall in 1988, listened to her performance, and persuaded her to play a few concerts with his quartet. This 1990 recording is the result, and it precedes many others in the following years. Of course, if Krall hadn't been involved in this project, it is likely that it would never have been released. The seven songs (two of which are performed twice) include five forgettable originals by Benedetti with lyrics by Harold Vick's "Your Destiny" and Blues Isla Eckinger's "Detroit." Krall plays piano, sings on most of the compositions, and sometimes harmonizes the vocal duets with guitarist Martien Oster. While the ensemble music is decent, nothing memorable happens, making it a historical curiosity that is the first record of future star Diana Krall.
