Grand opéra

Description

Famous opera composer of the 19th century (even before Mozart, Verdi, or Wagner), Giacomo Meyerbeer achieved immense success in Italy by writing operas in the style of Rossini. It is in Paris that he won his greatest triumphs with Robert le Diable (1831), Les Huguenots (1836), and Le Prophète (1849), works considered foundational to the "Grand opéra français." Meyerbeer is one of the few composers to have successfully achieved the delicate synthesis between German orchestral technique, the art of Rossinian bel canto, and the concern for French declamation. Always fascinated by his music, the immense soprano Diana Damrau decides to pay him the greatest tribute in this recording with the orchestra and choir of the Lyon opera under the direction of Emmanuel Villaume, also a great specialist in French music. Diana Damrau shines with her lyricism, brilliance, and dramatic power, and allows us to discover or rediscover the most famous arias from the 10 greatest operas of Meyerbeer. Notably, two world premieres on record.
